Our Church Construction ministry provides physical buildings for our PAZ churches. Often, after a village is reached (typically through the health and/or water filter ministries), the need arises to have a physical building for the small but growing local group of believers. It is amazing how encouraging a church building is to a local body of believers and how much it helps a that young church grow.
Church Inauguration Services are always exciting and special
Project AmaZon has partnered with several organizations to build church buildings all over the Amazon Basin. We match donors to specific community needs and get the local community involved. Many missionaries and Brazilians alike (such as Joaquim, our Construction Coordinator) work together to involve the community and work teams as well as purchase the construction supplies to get the most out of our donations.
We encourage the local communities to give what they can—that way they take ownership of the church building itself. Often a community will cut and gather its own wood, get its own sand (for concrete) and provide needed hands for labor. The Brazilians are hard workers, and can make almost anything work!
Neighboring North and South Americans working together to build a church
PAZ uses a couple of different basic building styles for new church buildings in different communities. The style of building depends on the particular needs of the physical location. PAZ uses two main designs for its churches: a solid concrete/brick structure and a more flexible all-wood structure for villages that flood. PAZ is also experimenting with pre-fabricated structures that go up very quickly.
