Congresso da Paz 2009

Congresso Day 2: Saturday Night

July 11, 2009

The Congresso is like a train: it takes a lot of work and effort to get it going, but once it starts going, the momentum builds and builds, faster and faster until the train is full speed, barreling down the tracks. Building off the momentum of the good opening day, we looked to add even more steam to the train that is the Congresso – more souls, more souls, more souls is the cry of the engine!!

That engine is run by a number of pastors and volunteers that gladly give of their time and efforts to make the Congresso great. This year there are over 1,400 people helping with the Congresso! Wow! Their smiling faces can be found all over the stadium, spreading the joy of the Lord.

The second day of the Congresso started at 6 PM, with the evening sun setting in the sky. The stadium was already hot from baking in the sun all day, but that didn’t deter people from coming out early to get good spots. Nívea Soares’ band started things off with a good set of praise and worship.

This year marked a first: the drama that was always saved for the huge closing night was split into 2 nights. Igreja da Paz’s Drama Ministry, in combination with Caíque Oliveira, performed the powerful first half of the Prodigal Son. The second half will be completed tomorrow night, along with the street dance and huge set.

Pr. Maurício Rocha preached that when Jesus passes by, everything changes. You can chose to follow and be transformed or not, but the choice makes every difference in your life. Once again, by God’s outstanding grace, hundreds came forward at the end.

Judging from the response of the two nights, we are one-fourth of the way to our goal of 2,000 souls won for Christ. Typically the last night of the Congresso sees the most decisions made, no doubt a testament to the excellent dramas. But we’re really praying to see a huge response to the Gospel Sunday night – one like Santarém has never before seen. Through God, all things are possible! Let’s believe and pray together. One more night to go!
